<aside>
A task system that combines Magnitude (the size and direction of a task's impact) with Weight (how much it's pressing on you right now) to produce a single, honest, prioritized list.
</aside>
How it works
- Magnitude is a 10-option select:
+5, -5, +4, -4, +3, -3, +2, -2, +1, -1 (no zero).
- Positive numbers = get-to-dos (chosen, values-aligned, compounding work).
- Negative numbers = have-to-dos (obligations, deliverables, fires).
- The size (1–5) is how big the task is.
- Weight is a 0–100 number that captures how much the task is pressing on you right now. Update it as life changes.
- Date is the do date — the day you plan to actually work on it (not the due date).
The intermixed sort
The Today view sorts by Magnitude ascending (which follows the option order defined below) then Weight descending:
+5 → -5 → +4 → -4 → +3 → -3 → +2 → -2 → +1 → -1
Positives come before negatives at every tier, so a +5 always beats a -5. Inside each tier, the heaviest pressure rises to the top.
Daily use
- Open the Today view and work top to bottom.
- As your day shifts, update Magnitude and Weight — the list re-sorts automatically.
- On hectic days, switch to Calendar and drag tasks onto specific time slots.
- End of day: push anything unfinished to tomorrow without guilt.
Healthy-week rule of thumb
A healthy week has at least one +4 or +5 task you actually finished. If by Friday you can't point to one, you're running someone else's life — rebalance next week.
